Letters to the Mayors of the Burin Peninsula

Addressing Silence: Why We Sent a Follow-Up Letter on Unanswered Concerns and Deleted Correspondence By The Town of Grand Bank

In our ongoing efforts to protect the interests of Newfoundland and Labrador’s communities, in particular the Burin Peninsula, we recently encountered a troubling issue involving a lack of response from public offices regarding concerns we raised earlier this year. On March 11, 2024, and March 18, 2024, we sent detailed emails outlining our concerns to 30 municipalities and LSD's on the Burin Peninsula.

Unfortunately, many of these emails went unanswered. To make matters worse, we recently received notification that one of our emails had been deleted by the Town of Grand Bank email server. This deletion constitutes a serious violation of municipal, provincial, and federal laws, which require public offices to properly manage and respond to public correspondence.

Our follow-up letter and email, sent recently, and included here, aim to address this lack of communication and demand accountability for the improper deletion of our second follow up email, dated March 18, 2024. It is vital that public offices remain transparent and accessible, especially when handling community concerns about significant issues of the proposed wind energy projects on our pristine and sacred peninsula. We hope that this follow-up will prompt a response and ensure that the issues we raised are taken seriously.

In light of the lack of transparency and the seriousness of the situation, we have made our letter public. This decision was not made lightly, but we believe it is essential to keep the community informed about the actions—or in-actions—of public officials, especially when they concern matters that affect us all. By sharing our letter, we aim to bring greater accountability to the process and ensure that these important issues are addressed in a timely and transparent manner.

We are reaching out to the community for your thoughts and feedback on this new development. How should we proceed if our correspondence continues to be ignored? What actions do you believe should be taken to ensure our voices are heard? We encourage you to share your perspectives and join the conversation on how we can move forward together.

We value the input of our community and encourage you to share your thoughts on this matter. How do you think we should proceed if our concerns continue to be ignored?

Your feedback is crucial as we navigate this issue together. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can also reach out to us directly by email at contact@cawe.ca. Your voice matters, and together, we can ensure that our concerns are heard and addressed.
